My nephew Justin tickling his TMX Elmo during our Christmas celebration

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!! I am back in NYC after a lllong and much needed break with my family back home.

I did have a few minor hiccups getting home though! The airline lost my luggage on my way there after we had been delayed in Chicago O’Hare for 40 minutes because we were “waiting on bags”. I had already been sitting at the airport for hours. I always arrive to the airport early and I had a long layover in Chicago, so I really didn’t see any excuse for them to lose my bag. I wasn’t the only one to lose my bag, the line at the claim counter was ridiculous, and we stood in the middle of a sea of black unclaimed luggage (making that pink luggage @ anthropologie seem like it would be an excellent investment!). I am still not quite sure if i was comforted or even more disturbed by the fact that so many other people lost their luggage as well. It really did seem like the Denver situation screwed up everything for everyone this holiday travel season!!

It wasn’t the first time I had lost my luggage, so I was especially nervous given my previous ordeal years earlier. I was fortunate though because after several hours and several almost panic/anxiety attacks later a man delivered one of my bags to my parent’s house. I was thankful to have recovered my clothing and shoes, but had been expecting two bags. It was already late at night and the man was trying to give me “Michael Faust”‘s bag from Houston,Texas. … “Yeah… um no… not me.” At that point I was wondering where in the HELL the bag carrying ALL of my christmas presents could be!!??? I was really nice to the delievry man despite being really upset about the situtation. In the end, my not flipping out paid off, because he made an extra effort to locate my bag with another delivery guy who had mistakenly taken my bag, and drove miles back to my house to make the delivery that very night, despite the LATE night hour. He said he personally had 283 deliveries of lost luggage. Doesn’t that seem like an absurd number?

Anyway, I had a fabulous christmas. I was able so see the majority of my friends & family, and received some fabulous gifts to top it off. Better yet, I was able to spend a lot of quality time with my neice Jaelin, and nephew Justin (pictured above tickling his TMX Elmo!). I got such a kick out of those two. They are hysterical. There are two many things they do & say that just make me laugh endlessly. For instance, when you ask Justin if he wants to do something that he really wants to do instead of saying “yes” he will simply say “woo hoo!!” I la Justin is 2 & Jaelin will be 1 in a few days, and now they have a new baby brother Jeremy. I was so happy he was born while I was there…it was a wonderful surprise! Little Jeremy was born about 3 weeks early. He was 7 lbs, but still needs some special attention. He was transfered to the neonatal intensive care unit, after 2 days of being on oxygen & a feeding tube he came off of it, so he is making progress. It broke my heart to see him there, and I didn’t want to leave him. He is doing great and has the nurses wrapped around his little finger.

We have been told he will be there for a week before he comes home, so we are praying that he continues to make the same progress he has been making. He reminds me so much of his big brother, I am sure that they will be best buds given their closeness in age. Leaving for the airport from his hospital room was probably one of the hardest things I think I’ve ever had to do. I just wanted to stay there forever. I made my mom leave me at the airport immediately to go back to see him!!! I know he is in good hands. The nurses are beyond nice there, and are so incredibly attentive. I was so happy with the care he was getting, and I know he is in the best place he could possibly be. I will be thinking of the little man non-stop!

Coming home I didn’t lose my luggage but I sat on an airplane for more than 4 hours (most of which was sitting on a runway). When I finally made it home last night little miss Sophie was sooo excited to see me! The boyfriend was too (can’t forget him). I had never been away from Sophie that long, so she about freaked out when she saw me!!! She had been a little depressed while I was away! The night had almost made a full turn around until Sophie got a taste of chocolate (she stole some I had been eating off of a high table and took it under the bed!!!) I about had another panic attack! I was frantically searching on the internet about chocolate poisoning in dogs. I kept thinking there must be a Poison Control center for dogs right? Sophie didn’t have but a few crumbs of chocolate (largely due to the fact she was primarily struggling with the cellophane it was wrapped in.) In case you’re wondering
the toxic levels vary but for milk chocolate (sophie’s poison of choice) But the rule of thumb is 1 ounce per pound of body weight. So, approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog, and one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. She didn’t have any of the symptoms, so in the end I was majorly overreacting, but I have to watch that crazy dog! Luckily, we don’t often have chocolate in our apartment so she won’t be tempted to go on another under bed chocolate binge!

As you can see, it wasn’t a necessarily a relaxing holiday, but it was eventful, and I was able to spend time with people I don’t see often enough. I can’t believe this is already 2007! I have a birthday coming up next week, and I’m not sure if I’m excited or bummed out. I know this is going to be a great year (largely in part to my Niiiice raise @ work:) )! Last year was the year of no resolutions for me, but this year I’m going to try to go with the typical HIT THE GYM HARD resolution. Wish me luck with that endeavor, hopefully I’ll make it at least until swimsuit season! 🙂 Have a wonderful, fashionable & fun 2007! 🙂 xo Melanie
