Despite all their efforts in recent years the Gap’s collections have been lackluster and the retail chain has struggled to stay relevant. Their decision to hire former Perry Ellis designer, Patrick Robinson (you may remember him as a former Target Go International designer), last summer as their executive vice president of design. Not only did that guarantee them a cool take on their “classics” it also slapped them back on the map just in time for the recession. If there is any time to become relevant this would be it! The Gap’s Fall 2008 collection (pictured below) features playful proportions in a muted palette. The collection has it all from bombers, trenches, oversized cardigans, plaids, pleated dresses, vests, and of course jeans will please Gap loyalists and fashionistas on a budget alike.
