Martha Stewarts Kids has some fabulous “Back to School” Craft ideas that I love. I am not going back to school, but am always looking to stay organized & pretty in the office & studio. I just adore this roll-up-pencil kit. It would be so cute to carry around my sketching & drawing pencils in this!
PENCIL KIT HOW-TO (from Martha Stewart Kids)
You will need a place mat that is approximately 18 inches wide. Lay it facedown; fold the right edge over to be 2 inches short of the left edge. Pin in place (see below). Use a ruler and a washable marker to draw parallel lines perpendicular to the fold, about 1 inch apart. Fold a shoelace* in half, and tuck its fold between the layers at the midpoint of one side. Next, sew up the two sides of the pouch—the shoelace will be sewn in—and along the parallel lines. Slide pencils into the compartments, and roll the case toward the shoelace side, then tie the laces.
* I would use ribbon instead of shoelaces for me to make it less kiddie!
Cereal Box Organizer (from Martha Stewart Kids)
Kids go through cereal fast. Make use of all the empty boxes by turning them into handy holders for their desks. Large boxes work well for books, small ones for supplies. Cut box with a utility knife at desired angle and height. Wrap decorative or contact paper around box to see how much you’ll need; unwrap; cut. Secure paper with double-sided tape; trim excess.
*I love the idea of using cereal boxes in this way….the only downside is that I don’t eat a lot of cereal!!!
