Makeover Memo: M.A.C. Ravishing Lipstick

I tend to gravitate towards orange and coral lipsticks in the summer. M.A.C.’s Ravishing lipstick is my latest go-to shade. It is a medium coral shade with a subtle shimmer and a Cremesheen finish. It reads a bit more orange in the tube than on the lips where it is more of a darkened peach shade. CoverGirl’s Rapture lipstick is similar in color but has a much frostier finish. I much prefer Ravishing’s micro shimmer and accompanying soft sheen. I found this shade to apply very smoothly, it had great opaque coverage, and I did not have any issues with dryness. Overall, it is fantastic every day shade!

Check out my photos (including swatches) below:

Ravishing is available at M.A.C. counters, stores, and online for $14.50.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today is my birthday, and is the day I consider the official start to the New Year! I mean why start a New Year’s diet on Jan. 1st if it means you have to refuse your own birthday treats in 10 days? It seems a bit wrong doesn’t it? That has been my logic and it hasn’t failed me yet! 2011 was an amazing year, I traveled to lovely tropical destinations, married my boyfriend of eight years, caught up with old friends, and crossed off several must-dos on my list of things to do before my next birthday! Here is my list of 30 things to do before my next birthday! 1) have fun! 2) save money even though that is never very fun. 3) buy a home 4) read 20 books 5) revisit the classics 6) eat healthier 7) cook dinner more often 8) drink less caffeine 9) take up yoga 10) run a marathon (hopefully I will get into the NYC marathon this year!) 11) buy a bike, and ride it often 12) knit my future niece or nephew cute baby items 13) knit myself a sweater 14) draw and paint more often 15) watch one old movie each month 16) visit the west coast 17) take a summer trip to Portland, Maine 18) go running on the beach 19) expand my record collection 20) visit Paris 21) learn how to make macarons 22) go on a photobooth scavenger hunt (with props in hand) 23) Take my cameras out and snap away 24) develop my film, upload photos, and organize them 25) go apple picking 26) bake an apple pie with said apples 27) volunteer at an animal shelter 28) work on a gallery wall of my paintings, drawings, photos and favorite art 29) spend quality time with my husband, beagle, family, and friends 30) carry over at least one of these “resolutions” to next years list! (an inevitability, no?)

D.I.Y. Nails: Ring Finger Sparkle Polish

If you’re bored with your polish, as I was with my O.P.I.’s Sweet Memories , a barely there pink, simply grab some glitter and clear nail polish (or if you have it on hand as I did some glitter polish) and apply some glitter mixture to your two ring fingers. This is quick, easy, and fun without being too over the top. This is fantastic for gals who are shy about the whole nail art trend. 🙂 For my ring finger I used Art Club Nail Art Polish in Silver Glitter for the silver base and added a bit of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Disco Ball on top for some multi-color glitter dimension. Have fun painting on the bling!

{Casa & Cucina} Sangria

A pitcher of Sangria accompanied nearly every one of our meals when we ventured to Puerto Rico for my birthday. So now that summer is upon us, I thought it would be the perfect summer party drink. It is a fun concoction to make because it invites you to try new flavors and combinations. We have been perfecting our recipe for weeks…the key building blocks are listed below:

1.5 liter bottle of burgundy wine
Approx 6 shots triple sec
Can of sliced pineapple with juice (10 rings)
Sugar/honey to taste
1 Orange
1 Peach
1 Apple
1 Mango
1 or 2 Kiwi (1 for garnishment)
6 sliced strawberries
Ice

Refrigerate in large pitcher until ready to serve

Serve over ice, spoon fruit in, garnish with kiwi or strawberry and enjoy!

CHEERS! Now all I need is mofongo and a side of sweet plantains. *sigh*
