Drugstore Detour: Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I decided to give the crackle nail finish another try when I spied Sally Hansen's Crackle Overcoat in Vintage Violet at my local CVS. Swatch photos and my thoughts on the formula can be found below:

The formula is much thinner than the O.P.I. formula, so I wasn't thrilled with that either. I applied the crackle finish on top of Essie's Lilacism. The effect started almost instantly as the top coat is very fast to dry. The cracks started with deep center cracks and slowly splintered off. When all was said and done my nails looked like a textured mess.  The bottle cost me $7.50, so it isn't much cheaper than many of the other salon brand polishes and I wouldn't recommend it on value or quality.

My vote is for you to skip this.

Style File: Fossil Vintage Re-Issue Collection

Thursday, August 11, 2011

I am loving these bags from Fossil's Vintage Re-Issue collection. They are affordable, and look chic & timeless, and perfect for fall! I think I may just have to track down one of their animal print weekenders before the leaves turn.
{clockwise} Vintage Re-Issue Weekender $248 (cheetah hair calf);Vintage Re-Issue Flap with Lock (black/brown) $188; Vintage Re-Issue Clutch (camel) $128; Vintage Re-Issue Flap Clutch (cheetah print) $75; all @ Fossil.

Inspiring Images From the Kate Moss & Jamie Hince Wedding

Kate Moss is on the cover of Vogue's September issue and inside are more gorgeous photos of her wedding to Jamie Hince of 'The Kills' shot by Mario Testino. The wedding took place at  the gorgeous St. Peter’s Church located in Southrop, Gloucestershire. The photos are truly stunning. Of course, the photos of Kate and her daughter Lila Grace steal the show, but I also really love that the couple recreated the Mick & Bianca Jagger wedding photo in the back of the car. See some of my favorite images of the Moss-Hince wedding below:

Beachy Summer Waves Hair Tutorial

Monday, August 08, 2011

This is a great summer look for long, straight hair. My hair doesn't have a lot of natural texture, so I start by spraying a bit of Bumble & Bumble's Surf Spray in my hair before I blow it dry. Aside from this, I try to use as little product as possible, because hot, humid, buggy days and nights aren't the best days to have a ton of product in your hair. Melted hair product creates a tangled mess at the end of a hot day, and that is a disaster I want to avoid! The idea is to create soft, natural looking waves with a bit of texture for a beachy look- no sand or salty air required. To see how I created this look watch my video below:

{ten things} late summer/early fall wish list

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

  1. Diane von Furstenburg Reara Dress $365- I love the effortless draping of this dress paired with a sexy plunge. The color is pretty fabulous as well.
  2. Jeffrey Campbell Lita in Taupe $160 @ SoleStruck- This is the hottest shoe, that everyone claims is surprisingly comfortable. It is even more attractive in person. One of my good friends has them in black, so I am going for the taupe. My husband won't be a fan because they will make me taller than him given they are ridiculously high.
  3. Gorgeously braided hair (via because I'm Addicted)- It is no secret, I adore braids, but this style has me envious.
  4. the leather railway messenger $168 @ Madewell- I love distressed looking messenger bags, this one seems to be the perfect size for me that will carry all of my essentials without weighing me down.
  5. Seif Necklace $76 @ Stone & Honey- I am obsessed with Stone & Honey's latest collection, I want them all!
  6. Cashmere boyfriend sweater $228 @ J.Crew- Every season I have trouble resisting J.Crew's cashmere, and this sweater is this sweater is oversized without being frumpy. I don't know of a guy that would let me borrow cashmere, so I just might fall victim to this purchase.
  7. Riding Boots- Tory Burch Aaden leather boots $495 @ Net-A-Porter, I need to shop for a new pair of riding boots, & these are on my radar for that rich cognac color.
  8. Silk blouse- Silk Lucinda blouse $98 @ J.Crew- I adore this rich golden mustard color, the silk blouse seems to be fall's answer to summer's silky tanks & tees
  9. Vanessa Mooney Wire Wrap Rainbow Quartz Necklace $82 @ Shopbop- This small rainbow quartz pendant is gorgeous & hard to resist.
  10. Natural Crochet Women's Classics $58 @ TOMS- I have been lusting after these all spring and summer, I must find them in a size 8, wish me luck!

Makeover Memo: M.A.C.'s Bloggers Obsessions Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow

Monday, August 01, 2011

M.A.C. Jealousy Wakes e/s
Since M.A.C.'s Blogger's Obsessions collection came back in stock, I ordered Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow, a gorgeous shade that is a teal leaning emerald green. The shade was created by Christine of Temptalia. I really have nothing like it in my collection, and given that I have a serious soft spot for teal and green eye shadows this was one of the only products in the collection I was really drawn to.  This is a quality eyeshadow with great color pay-off and easy to work with due to its veluxe pearl finish. Check out my Jealousy Wakes photos and swatches below:

I pulled a few blues & greens to compare it to Jealousy Wakes, nothing really compares...the closest thing might be Urban Decay's Homegrown...
