Sephora Exclusive Urban Decay Eyeshadow Shades & My Thoughts

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Urban Decay Haight Eyeshadow exclusively at Sephora for $17

Last week I stopped into Sephora to check out these new Urban Decay eye shadows. These shades are all really beautiful, rich, velvety shades with shimmer (no glitter). Going in I was most interested by Woodstock, but find that it is too intense for my eyes. Instead, I would love to see that shade in a gloss, lipstick, or blush. It is already a nail polish :). The blue/teal shades are fabulous, but personally I need another blue/teal eyeshadow like I need a hole in my head. Haight, at first glance, reminded me a bit of M.A.C.'s Birds & Berries shade (Liberty of London) but without the frosty shimmer. Dashiki could be Urban Decay's Kiddie Pool's kid sister...they are pretty similar. I couldn't think of anything similar to Aquarius, and think it would be a great color to have in my collection. Psychedelic Sister was my least favorite shade, but this is probably because I love Urban Decay's Flash so much that any other true purple is doomed to fall short. Free Love is probably the most appealing to me. Free Love is in the same color family as Urban Decay's X eyeshadow only it is less gold and more peach. Because I have "X" and M.A.C.'s Melon Pigment I might skip on Free Love because sometimes similar is not worth an extra $17.

{top} Free Love (shimmery peach); Dashiki (bright blue with shimmer); Haight (dark teal with shimmer); $17 each @ Sephora.
{bottom}Aquarius (shimmery aqua green); Psychedelic Sister (bright purple); Woodstock (bright pink with a bit of shimmer); $17 each @ Sephora.

My final verdict is: Free Love and Woodstock are the best colors in the bunch. Buy Free Love only if you have nothing like it, and buy Woodstock if you can rock fuschia like no one's business. And finally, the blue, teal, and purple shades aren't anything to break a sweat over.

Cupcakes & Cashmere for Coach

Emily of Cupcakes & Cashmere designed a lovely limited edition bag for Coach. I'm a big fan of Emily's style blog and I am beyond happy for her success. I adore the color as I think light pink is a great neutral, and the shape of the bag paired with the chain hardware makes it classic. The bag is currently available for pre-order on the Coach site, go check it out:

Emily's New Satchel $498 {Limited Edition, pre-order for early June delivery} @ Coach.

Emily's inspiration board and photos of her carrying her fabulous bag:
Doesn't Emily look fantastic wearing this dress from H & M's Garden collection? So pretty! Congrats again to Emily!

MAC + Disney: Venomous Villains Collection

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Disney and MAC Cosmetics are joining forces to create a limited edition makeup collection inspired by four Disney villians. The collection will be appropriately titled "Venomous Villains" and will launch sometime in late September. I've been going over the Disney villians, and all I know is Ursula better make the cut or you can count me out. Best. Movie. EVER.  I think if I had to take a stab at which four villians they would choose I would guess: Cruella DeVille, the Evil Queen from Snow White, Ursula, and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Here are some Disney villians to ponder:
Who do you think the characters will be? Hmmm...

American Apparel + LBD= Love

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Finding a flattering one-shoulder little black dress under $50 on its face seems like an impossible task, but then the impossible comes and smacks me right in the face as I'm browsing for basic jersey tanks! American Apparel's interlock asymmetrical dress is flattering, not too short, and yet sexy in all the right ways. I was instantly in love. I also really love it in the cream shade (only available in stores), but because that dress would require me to maintain a tan I opted for the black one!

Bronzed Beauty Tutorial

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Every spring and summer I find myself trying to get in touch with my inner California girl to find that perfect summer glow. I'm about as pale as they come so when I'm seeking my inner bronze I turn to my makeup kit to help me reach my Malibu Barbie potential. No, I do not aspire to be orange, but a beautiful bronze would be nice, so this is my take on M.A.C.'s American Nomad SS10 Makeup trend.
My Inspiration: M.A.C. American Nomad Trend Face Chart

{Part 1} Foundation, Blush, Bronzer Routine:

Products used:
MAC Tahitian Sand Beauty Powder (Hello Kitty Collection) -substitute any highlighter you like but this is completely optional. :)

Tools used:

{Part 2} Eyes & Lips:

Products used:
Urban Decay e/s in X (or Muchness if you have the Alice in Wonderland Palette) this is my almost dupe for MAC's Melon Pigment
MAC Pigment in Copperbeam (PRO, formally from the overrich collection)
L'Oreal HIP Color Crystal Eyeliner in Bronze Shimmer $10 in drugstores, great eyeliner, comparable to Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner formula :)

Tools Used:
Sephora concealer brush (MAC's 217 is great to use when applying the paint pots)

Louis Vuitton Mon Monogram

Thursday, May 06, 2010

The Louis Vuitton's monogram canvas is ubiquitous especially in the form of their classic Speedy 30. It is also one of the most popular brands to knock off. For this reason, I have been reluctant to add to my own small LV collection. That is until they started offering their Mon Monogram personalization service, now I can't stop playing around with color combinations. Sure, the service jacks up the price of the bag (the price of the Speedy 30 bag jumps from $690 to $970 with the service), but no one will question you as to whether it is authentic. Personally, I find it annoying when someone asks me if the bag I spent hard earned cash for is fake...maybe even a tad insulting! Another reason why I find the personalization service to be attractive is that it helps make your bag stand out among the many while simultaneously expressing a bit of your personality. Furthermore, if you are traveling with LV luggage, you will have no problem spotting it in the baggage claim. Here are a few more of my favorite personalization on the Speedy 30:

Gabriela Artigas

Gabriela Artigas, a Mexico City native, stumbled into her calling when while studying textile design in Mexico City she took some colorful plastic toothbrushes purchased at the market and molded them into colorful cuffs. Soon, she found herself relocating to Los Angeles to launch her own collection in 2003.
Her collection has of course evolved since then as her products incorporate a range of materials, semi-precious stones, vintage chains, precious metals, crystals, leathers, horn, amber, and silks. On the other hand, some things never change like the fact her pieces are hand-made in limited productions
I find the delicate rings and teardrop necklaces to be stunning. I would like nothing more to layer them on. Check out my favorite pieces below:
