Thursday, July 30, 2009

The A.P.C. fall collection is perfect for girl's who has in the past been known for sneaking separates from their boyfriend's closet. A.P.C. couldn't make the menswear as womenswear trend anymore desirable. I anticipate the girliest of girls craving at least a few of A.P.C.'s slim, boxy cut pieces. Check out my favorite looks below:

Blog Love: Sea of Shoes

I really admire the eclectic style of Dallas based blogger, Jane Aldridge. Jane is only seventeen years old but given she has such a fashionable Mum (Judy Aldridge of Atlantis Home) it is really no surprise she has a fantastic sense of style, not to mention a sick shoe collection. Here are just a few shots of Jane from her blog, Sea of Shoes:

{images via Sea of Shoes}

Jane & her mum Judy are even featured in this month's Vogue:

Of course, this post wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention Jane's collaboration with one of my favorite shops, Urban Outfitters!

Check out the J. Aldridge by Sea of Shoes capsule collection for Urban Outfitters below:

Sweet Summer Treat

Summer decided to show up in New York just as all of us fashion people are planning to make room for our Fall wardrobes. Now we are worrying about keeping cool. I plan on rewarding myself and my friends with a delicious treat after this ridiculously hot & humid week! Could there be anything better than a cookie ice cream sandwich? I think not!

Mini Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ingredients

Makes 12

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, with rack in center. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add sour cream, egg, and vanilla; beat until smooth. With mixer on low, gradually add flour mixture; mix in 1 cup chocolate chips.

  2. Using 1 rounded tablespoon per cookie, drop mounds of dough, about 1 1/2 inches apart, onto two baking sheets. (You'll have 25 to 30 cookies.) Bake until golden, 10 to 12 minutes; transfer to a rack to cool completely.

  3. Scatter remaining chocolate chips on a plate. Place about 2 tablespoons ice cream between 2 cookies, bottoms facing in; press gently. Roll the sides of each sandwich in chips. (If ice cream is melting, place sandwiches in freezer until firm enough to roll in chips.) Transfer sandwiches onto baking sheets. Freeze until firm, at least 2 hours; then wrap individually in plastic. Freeze up to 2 weeks.

Cynthia Rowley 2010 Resort Collection

Friday, July 24, 2009

The Cynthia Rowley 2010 Resort Collection had classic ladylike dresses for day, nautical inspired essentials, & fun, artsy prints, colors, and embellished details. I especially love the d.i.y. aspects to many of the pieces that were embellished with ribbon trims, and recycled fabric scraps. The floral printed handkerchief tie shoes were charming, and the color-blocked dresses would be perfect for Sunday brunch in the Hamptons!

The movie will star Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helen Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and 19-year-old Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Gap Born To Fit Party & Gap Born To Fit Jeans GIVEAWAY

Monday, July 20, 2009

Born 2 Fit Sign

A few weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely Justine of Brand About Town to potentially become a Gap Brand Enthusiast. I met with Justine over coffee and then went shopping with her in the Gap on 5th Ave where I chose an adorable dress, scarf, and ruffled tank top to take home all just for meeting with her. Soon thereafter, a package arrived for me in the mail with a giant tote, perfume, lip gloss, and a "Born To Blog" tee all from the Gap:

I had been chosen by the Gap to host a "Born To Fit" jeans party with some of my girlfriends!!! I was beyond thrilled! Given that is in the middle of wedding season, I opted to get started right away and host the party out east at my fiance's parents house (my NYC apartment is less than ideal for hosting 10-20 people!) on Sunday July 19th. It was the first Gap Born To Fit party of many that other bloggers will be hosting around the country, and the best part is that my guests and I would get to try on and take home the jeans well BEFORE they are available in stores!!

The jeans and other goodies were sent overnight to me via Fed Ex. When they arrived, it felt a bit like Christmas in July! I had sizes 0-12 in three of Gap's "Born To Fit" styles: "Always Skinny", "Real Straight", and "Sexy Boot". These jeans are set to hit Gap stores nationwide on July 27th. They are 110% the nicest Gap jeans I've seen. It is clear the Gap has completely re-engineered the jeans from the wash, fit, and overall feel of the jeans. The fabric is ridiculously soft and is the closest they have ever come to REALLY competing with premium denim and I mean it. These are the images of the three new "Born To Fit" styles available at the Gap July 27th:

gap born to fit styles
(Note: the "Always Skinny" style I had on hand at the party did not have holes, and was a dark/black wash, but I can't wait to try on this version of the style!)

The weather cooperated so I took the party outdoors, which left the inside of the house empty for lots of trying on and jeans swapping! My jeans table complete with "Born To Fit" re-usable totes for my guests to carry their jeans home:

Born To Fit Totes

In addition to the awesome jeans, totes, and signage, the Gap was nice enough to provide printed packages of M&Ms (The M&Ms were also printed), "Born To Pop" popcorn, a "Born To Snack" popcorn bowl, and a "Born To Smile" digital camera for the party. I took it upon myself to burn CDs as favors for my guests, and made sure my ipod was pumping the playlist from the speakers for the duration of the party:

Born to Snack

My fiance made homemade guacamole for the guests which we served with hint of lime Tostitos. We also served the New York classic Black & White cookies with fresh berries and fresh apples, pears, peaches, along with cheese & crackers. White wine, water, soda, vodka & cranberry, and beer was also available for my guests! :)

I took photos with my trusty Nikon for the duration of the party, but made sure my guests could take pictures of each other with the "Born to Smile" digital camera the Gap provided:

Inside I put "Fitting Room" signs on the doors of the bathrooms and bedrooms:

For even more photos of my Born To Fit party please check out my flickr set.

Everyone really loved the jeans, and the party was a lot of fun. The most popular jean was the "Always Skinny" style (I have ONE size left). It was my personal favorite as well, but I truly love them all.

Because I do have left over jeans, and I would never have gotten the opportunity to host such an awesome party if it weren't for my dear readers, I am going to be giving away FIVE pairs of Gap "Born To Fit" Jeans.

Simply leave a comment on this post with your name & email address or shoot me an email platinumblondelife5 [at] gmail [dot] com with with the subject line "GAP GIVEAWAY" before 11:59pm EST Sunday July 26, 2009 to enter. I will notify the FIVE lucky winners on July 27th (the day the jeans arrive in GAP stores). (Please note: the giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.) Good Luck!!!

UPDATE: Thanks to all those who entered! Congrats to our winners Princess Paula, Jennifer, Sui, KayRN, and Saving In Style--you gals will look fab in your new jeans!!
