CC Skye Woven Bracelet

Friday, May 29, 2009

My sister and I are really big fans of CC Skye, especially when it comes to their cool bracelets and bangles. We wear them with everything! Jessica Alba was recently sighted wearing this woven bracelet while carrying her adorable daughter, Honor Marie. I am finding it difficult to resist the urge of picking up a bracelet for myself!

CC SKYE Wide Silver Mesh Bracelet $115; CC SKYE Wide Gold Mesh Bracelet $115; both @ Creative Contrast.

Platinum Blonde Wife

Thursday, May 28, 2009

I am back in New York after spending time with my family for Memorial Day. It was the best trip ever because Tim proposed, and I said yes! We've been together for six years, but I was completely surprised! I think I am still in shock!! Needless to say, we are both very excited! There is plenty of time for planning later, so we are just enjoying the moment and each other's company!

we are engaged!

I'll have more posts coming soon. xoxo Melanie

The wait is finally over, the Elizabeth & James shoe collection is now available online at Shopbop, and in stores! The details are quite impressive on this collection! The majority of the collection is available in the $300 range, my favorite styles are pictured below:

I adore the latest offerings from Corey Lynn Calter. Everything is a light from the mix-n-match prints styled with metallic oxfords, to the punchy neon hues, and the tribal prints and patterns. My empty wallet is the only thing keeping me from collecting them all!

Permanent Vacation S/S 2009

Monday, May 18, 2009

The Sweden based fashion line, Permanent Vacation, aims to re-introduce a classic gentleman's way of dressing, which they define as: "dapper, shapely, comfortable and useful, garments aimed to love, wear out and repair." Their spring/summer 2009 collection is perfect for lazy sundays and morning afters. They make it easier for us to look pretty and comfortable simultaneously. I am head over heels in love with Permanent Vacation's batik print Lainee dress and of course Jenny Groth's gorgeous photography.

Chocolate Graham Cracker Cupcakes

S'mores in a cupcake!? Is there anything better than that? I think not! Martha Stewart posted Trophy Cupcake's recipe for Chocolate Graham Cracker Cupcakes and I am fighting the urge to try my hand at the recipe. The cupcakes look like they would take quite a bit of work to make and I don't have a kitchen torch for the icing, so I might have to save this one for another day. However, these cupcakes look too delicious not to try!  Click here for the full recipe and how-to video.

CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Mascara

Friday, May 15, 2009

Mascara is essential for me. I have a ton of lashes but being a blonde, they are nearly invisible without it. There are a ton of really fabulous mascaras available at your drugstore. And while I have a soft spot for Dior & Lancome mascaras, I go through mascara like crazy so I try to mix it up with some affordable options. About a week ago, I picked up CoverGirl's new Exact Eyelights Mascara in Black Sapphire and I was thrilled with the results! They should rename it to bright blue eyes. For those of you who are weary of colored mascara you shouldn't be afraid of this formula. Trust me, I am the last person on earth...well maybe not the last, but I'm at least not the most likely person to be walking around with blue lashes. The blue reflects are very subtle, but just enough to make your eyes pop. Definitely, give this mascara a try!!

Nails by the Dozen

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

If there is one beauty obsession I am guilty of it is nail polish. I am constantly fussing over nail polish, painting my nails, and finding the best spas for my manicure/pedicures. The right shade is essential, and the folks at New York Magazine seem to recognize that and did some of the leg work for us. They have painstakingly put together a list of 110 best nail colors found in NYC-- covering drugstore, salon, & department store favorites. In edition to the polish details, they have posted swatches, so decisions can be made at your desk. My favorite hues from their selections are posted below:

{top} 1) Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color in Mica Rose $23; 2) Dior Vernis Nail Polish in Purple Candy $20; 3) NARS Nail Polish in Arabesque $16; 4) Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Sheer Kiss $15; 5) OPI Nail Polish in Miami Beet $9; 6) Sula Paint & Peel Nail Polish in Modern Mauve $9; via Shop-A-Matic @ NY Mag.

{bottom} 7) M.A.C. Nail Lacquer in Love & Friendship $11; 8) SpaRitual Nail Lacquer in Delight $10; 9) OPI Nail Polish in Second Honeymoon $9; 10) Sula Paint & Peel Nail Polish in Watermelon $9; 11) Maybelline New York Express Finish 50 Second Nail Color in Pink Shock $5; 12) Essie Nail Polish in Fishnet Stockings $8; via Shop-A-Matic @ NY Mag.

Snail Mail Will Cost You More

The price of a U.S. postage stamp for a first-class letter increased from 42 cents to 44 cents today. I think it is silly they insist on raising the price every five seconds, but I still have some Forever stamps to use so I can't complain too much. However, when I do run out of stamps I'll be picking up these lovely King + Queen Love stamps! If all stamps were this pretty, I probably wouldn't complain about the increase at all!

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain is my new drugstore beauty obsession! It is amazing! I love lip stains because they have the ability to give you just a pinch of lip color that lasts all day, or you can create an intense matte lip that will make it past your first martini or, ahem, your fourth. The CoverGirl formula comes in a variety of amazing shades, and has a fine-tip applicator, similar to that of a marker, making it easy to create a perfectly precise lip. Today I wore the lipstain in Everbloom Kiss and applied a clear gloss over it to create a shiny, punchy pink lip. At the end of the day, my lips are still perky & pink! Get yours here for $7.49.

Chanel's Traind de Nuit

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

The new CHANEL N°5 film, "Train de Nuit", by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Audrey Tautou and Travis Davenport is quite lovely.

There has been a bit of a Chanel craze here in the city. In honor of Cinco De Mayo, Saks Fifth Avenue have replaced their American flags with Chanel No. 5 flags, while sections of 5th Avenue have been dedicated to the classic fragrance. It was quite the sight:

Honestly, I think they should leave it like that. :)
