Drink More Wine
Monday, December 22, 2008
Jess of What I Wore posted a fabulous tip on keeping boots upright in your closet! She puts empty wine bottles inside her boots to help them stay upright and keep their shape! So ladies, get your drink on! And if you need to add some more boots to your collection check out these three beauties:

Anna Andersson Jewelry
I've been admiring the simple, sculptural designs from Swedish born designer Anna Andersson. She uses a variety of materials in her work which ranges from understated to bold, thus her collection has something for everyone and nearly every occasion. Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Sunday, December 21, 2008
This movie was amazing! If you haven't seen it, put it on your list of musts! Check out the trailer:
Penelope Cruz is fantastic in this film, as were all the actors but she was brilliantly crazed and very deserving of her best supporting actress golden globe nod. Rebecca Hall & Javier Bardem are also nominated for best actress & actor respectively for their roles in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and the film itself is nominated for best motion picture in the musical or comedy category. Of course, it is a bit odd to see Javier Bardem nominated next to James Franco for his work in Pineapple Express as the films couldn't be more different. I wouldn't say this film fits perfectly in the comedy category although I did have a few good laughs. I'm always somewhat baffled at how they categorize films and performances. For instance, does anyone know why Phillip Seymor Hoffman is considered a supporting actor in Doubt? Next on my list of movies to see is Slumdog Millionaire & the Wrestler (I actually was given the movie poster today after coming out of the theatre thereby making my collection of movie posters all the more eclectic!).
Snowman
I had to share this sweet short stop motion film:
The Snowman Short from sosij on Vimeo.
I love it! We have had many snowmen erected in our neighborhood, only to be dismantled by snowmen vandals. When two little boys who had built a snowman outside our building found their creation dismantled they said, "Dad, someone has vandalized our snowman!" The dad chuckled and shrugged it off, but my beagle, Sophie, and I took it a bit more seriously (I think it has been well established how I feel about Snowman vandals.) We set out to solve the mystery and later found the culprit in action...a little girl (approx. age 8) who was screaming and punching and kicking what remained of the snowmen. After reporting our discoveries, my boyfriend maintained that had seen her kick around the snowman's head like a soccer ball earlier that day. I was shocked, and was saddened because she had always seemed like a sweet girl. Now, I'm not so sure :)

Cookies For Cancer

{clockwise: gone baby gone by haeshu; time to decorate by Matthew A.; sprinkles by UNIFORM studio; cookie boxes by happy songs}
Cookies for Kids' Cancer aims to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. The organization was started after 2-year old Liam was diagnosed with a deadly form of pediatric cancer called Neuroblastoma, a cancer that only about 30% of children survive. His parents where shocked to discover how lack of funding played such a great role in these odds. In fact, Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 18. So, Liam's parents, Gretchen & Larry, were immediately called to action. Gretchen had a simple yet ambitious idea to hold a bake sale with a goal of baking 96,000 cookies with friends and volunteers. Friends, co-workers, neighbors, and other families whose children were also battling pediatric cancer rushed to help. With their help, all 96,000 cookies were sold in three weeks, and the event raised over $400,000 for pediatric cancer research. Of course, it was clear that this simple act was the start of something bigger than Gretchen had initially imagined. Cookies for Kids' Cancer was born, and is committed to raising funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer. Through the concept of local bake sales, Cookies for Kids' Cancer will provide the inspiration and support for people like you to help children win their fight against cancer.
Learn more about their mission , donate, and find out how you can help their fantastic cause right here.

Candace Ang Ruffian Collar Necklace
Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Candace Ang has long been a PBL favorite largely for her take on the cameo necklace, but her ruffian bib necklaces are my new obsession. The options range from neon hues, elegantly jeweled, to subversive. If you're looking to make a statement, try one of these beauties on:
{top} Candace Ang Tri Color Silk Bib Necklace $185 each @ Ravin Style (or solid colors here); Candace Ang Cobalt Ruffian Bib Necklace $209 @ Shop Moody Blues;
{bottom} Black Silk and Pearl Ruffian Necklace $176 (also available in white & grey) @ Candace Ang; Candace Ang Black Baby Ruffian Necklace $219 @ Shop Moody Blues; Candace Ang Pink Medium Ruffian Necklace $319 @ Shop Moody Blues;
Chanel Moscou Nail Russian Nights Limited Edition Collection
Chanel once again has launched a limited edition nail lacquer collection. This time with a trio of glittering black based polishes that perfectly reflect light in shades of dark blue, gold, and maroon:

{clockwise} Nuit de Russie; Or de Russie; & Feu de Russie $30 each @ Chanel
The dark blue shade reminds me a bit of a peacock...I think it would be a fun & mysterious shade to wear this winter, but I would probably wear Feu de Russie more!
The models in Chanel's Moscow-Paris runway presentation wore the limited edition shade Or de Russie (gold) as you can see below:

Style Inspiration
Saturday, December 06, 2008
Street style & style diary blogs are my guilty pleasures. It is a bit like going to school and looking around the cafeteria to see what the other girls are wearing--the key difference is of course that this is the most fashionable school on earth. I love to see what the girls (and guys) come up with, and can't help but take a few notes for myself. My latest obsession is Lookbook.nu, an online community of style gurus. Here are a few of my favorite looks:
{l to r, top to bottom} 1) Fell in love at the seaside by Gemma W.; Please don't talk to me, I fall in love so easily by elina a.; 2) Can't take it anymore by johanne s.; i'm always be there for you... by olivia y.; faussement zen. by marie d.; return of the rat by slainmejifole d.; 3) sister, where's your twister? by elin d.; outfit du jour by betty a.
