Bond No. 9 Union Square

Union Square is the next fragrance in line for the Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol series. The fragrance is the second fragrance in the Warhol series (following Silver Factory), and will hit Bond No. 9 stores & Saks Fifth Ave in March. The bottle is floral design on the bottle is gorgeous. I am always a fan of Bond scents (my least favorite of recent Bond fragrances has been the Coney Island scent), so I'm really looking forward to Union Square. As with all Bond fragrances, Union Square will be pricey...$195 for 100ml/$135 for 50ml, but it will be worth it...you'll smell delicious!

fragrance details:
the notes:
lily of the valley in a deliciously impudent frame of mind uncorruptible green stem notes
sweet blue freesia, having its 15 minutes of fame
white birchwood—our very own nature girl decadently mellow amber
silver-cloud musk accord that’s sultry on the outside, cool and collected on the inside

Purchase Union Square @ Bond No. 9 here

P.S. I actually just recently brought back some empty bottles to the Bond store for recycling! Be sure to do that with your empties!!! Go Green!

Dream & Awake

When I first saw the style shots for fashion label Dream and Awake over at "about some things", I knew I had to see more. The photography is simply stellar! Furthermore, Dream and Awake has one of the most aesthetically pleasing websites around. Sadly, I don't believe Dream and Awake is available in the states...we will have to live vicariously through the photography:

Ashley G Conversation Series

Lately, I haven't been able to get enough of Ashley Goldberg's art. I am really smitten by her conversation series that is available at Velocity Art and design. Each piece was created by using acrylics, inks, pencils, and vintage paper on canvas. The works are small, simple, and endearing with a tiny pop of color in the form of a sweet conversation bubble. They remind me a bit of the conversation bubbles in Apple's iChat...hmm iChat art-- all the more reason to love them!

J.Crew Shoes

I really love J.Crew, but why does it have to be so expensive?? Remember when J.Crew was perfectly reasonable? Oh those were the good old days!   I never fail to have a bit of sticker shock when I browse J.Crew's shoe section, but I am defenseless when it comes to the endless selection of adorable styles.  It is just a shame that J.Crew has to cut into my Marc by Marc & Loeffler Randall budget. Nevertheless, here are a few style that have caught my eye and are threatening to empty my wallet:

New Styles For Spring:

{clockwise} Tivoli patterned ballet flats (Online & Catalog Only) $260; Tivoli patterned slingbacks (Online & Catalog Only) $298; Jeweled Posy Patent Leather Flats (Online & Catalog Only) $225; Flora Slingbacks (Online & Catalog Only) $198; all @ J.Crew

Final Sale (with an extra 20% off the listed price):

{clockwise} Printed Peep-Toe Mary-Janes $199; Printed Calf Hair Mary Janes $199; Parisian Mary Janes $179; Distressed Metallic Leather Mary-Janes $199; all @ J.Crew

Lancome's Pixel Pink

I finally got my tube of Lancome's Color Fever Shine in Pixel Pink today (I thought it was lost in the mail, but the mail folks accidentally delivered it to my neighbor!). I absolutely LOVE the color. I like it more than Proenza Pink (and that shade was my life for awhile!) Pixel Pink is the fourth installation of the Pout-à-Porter series of limited-edition lipsticks created exclusively for the runway by Gucci Westman. Westman collaborated with Thakoon to create this wonderful shade. Check out this video dedicated to the new limited edition shade:

I am loving the Loeffler Randall Spring 2008 collection. The handbags & shoes are a mainstay in my accessories arsenal, but I am lusting after their apparel this spring. Dior Fall 2008 Collection

I loved the huge mod hair, bright colors, psychedelic prints, & elaborate eye make up that showed up on the Dior runways. All the over-the-top, in your face, looks were counteracted with somewhat demure, 1960s inspired looks.

Botkier Spring 2008

If there is one accessory I would rush to save in the instance of a fire, it would be my black Botkier satchel. I love that bag so much, it is almost shameful. There are so many bags to choose from on the market, of course I have been dreaming of the Prada Nappa stripes bags (but they are way out of my price range)...there are bags that haunt me in my sleep, but Botkier has never failed me. Why Botkier? Well the super soft leather, amazing construction, and the intriguing hardware keep me coming back for more. This season Botkier has expanded their handbag line to include shoes and let me tell you they are pretty fantastic too. See below for my Spring Botkier picks:

Lita Patent Clutch in Blue $350; Cleo Peep Toe Ankle Wrap Sandal $325;Ginger Ring Flat Thong Sandal $245;Lita Medium Satchel $625; Isis Tote $695;Botkier Athena Trapunto Flat Sandal in Fuschia $225; all @ Shopbop

Rachel Bilson in the March issue of Nylon

{peter jensen dress, chanel jacket, jewelry by van cleef & arpels}

Rachel Bilson is gracing the cover of March's Nylon Magazine. We've seen her on the cover of GQ, Lucky, Seventeen, and now Nylon...she is everywhere!! Whatever she does, she always looks cute as a button doing it My boyfriend thinks she is an example of a perfect human specimen, and I'm sure he isn't the only guy. The guys want her, the girls want to be her. It appears she can do no wrong. Of all the shots she has done in recent months, this collection of photos, shot by Hilary Walsh, is definitely my favorite of the bunch:

Jessica Gonacha

I love the use of color and pattern in Jessica Gonacha's work. Her paintings are a breath of fresh air with their unexpected combinations. I really love her faceless figurative works, that remind me a bit of one of my other favorite artists, Alyson Fox. I am in the process of making over my apartment, and I would love to have one of her prints (if not more). Much to my delight, Jessica recently added the following prints to her shop:

the idea chair print $15

the bird lady print $15

black rain print $15

juniper & carnation print $15

NYC cracks down on Canal Street Counterfeiters

{image via groove effect}

Yesterday morning, the NYPD raided Canal street and the "Counterfeit Triangle" and seized more than $1 million in conterfeit merchandise bearing the logos of Burberry, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Coach, Prada, Fendi, Rolex, Calvin Klein, and Louis Vuitton.

There were 32 storefronts illegally selling fake goods in three buildings all owned by Vincent Terranova, who apparently had knowledge of the illegal operations.

Read more about the bust here in WWD.

This is a great development, but there have been busts in the past and counterfeiters have not been deterred...We still have problems in the WTC area (near Century 21), the Seaport, and often the Union Square area.

I can't tell you how many times I get asked if I want a freaking handbag...keep up the good work NYC...now if only ebay could do some spring cleaning we would be good!

The Cherry Blossom Girl

I comprehend a total of two sentences of this blog, but I know I like it. When you visit the Cherry Blossom Girl blog you will fall head over heels in love with the images. My favorites are of Alix (who is completely adorable) and her girlfriends out and about in France. The styling and photography is perfectly girly (so of course i love it). Ah, what it must be like to be young and in Paris! To say I am envious of her would be an understatement.

Flip & Tumble Reusable Grocery Bags

I am all for bringing my own bag(s) to the grocery store, and even have a series of cute and printed envirosax bags that I adore. It is one thing when you set out to run errands, it is another when you are out and about and have to run to the drug store on a whim and are caught without your eco-friendly bags and are forced to do some creative stuffing in your purse (trust me i've been there). With the flip & tumble bags, none of us have to be caught in that predicament because their lovely color blocked resusable grocery totes are sturdy, attractive, and fold up into a compact ball that can easily fit into your oversized purse without being nuisance. Going green hasn't been easier! I just purchased some of these for the apartment, and I can't wait until they arrive.

The bags are $12 each and come in teal, green, black, & brown

To view the demo video, view colors and to purchase the bags visit Flip & Tumble's website

Addiction: Colored Tights

One thing that has been a constant on the runways is colored & printed tights. I am a huge fan of my blue & purple tights--it is an easy way to add interest & personality to an otherwise ordinary or every-day outfit. Coutorture recently did a photo shoot featuring several designs by Look From London.

You will definitely need printed tights to go with your Fall '08 Anna Sui looks! Check out a few shots from the photo shoot below:

I'm so excited for Dolly Parton's new album, (in stores today) Backwoods Barbie. The title is BRILLIANT, and is quite possibly my favorite album title of all time.

I previewed the album awhile back thanks to Perez (who incidentally has a music deal with Warner Music in the works according the New York Times...I know, I can hardly believe it myself), and I have to say it is pretty great! Seriously, how can you not love Dolly Parton?

Two Piglets

I love the simplicity of the letterpress cards from Two Piglets, and of course the fact that they are completely eco-friendly! All cards are pressed using soy ink onto bristol paper which contains 30% post consumer recycled fiber. They clean their presses ordinary & simple vegetable oil, instead of harsh & non-edible smog causing solvents, scrap cards are reused as packing materials and card inserts, and their shipping materials are all re-used boxes they gather from local retailers!
You simply can't go wrong with that! I found an adorable card for Valentine's day for my boyfriend, and since then I've been going back for every card sending occasion.

Britney Headed For Financial Woes?

The New York Times published a very interesting article on Britney Spears and her fortune. The article titled, "In The Drama of Britney Spears, A Showbiz Fortune Is At Risk", examines reports that Britney's financial situation is headed the same direction as every other part of her life. My feeling is that she can turn it around...she is 26 and extremely talented. Love her or hate her, there is interest in what she does. Sure, there is more interest in her personal life than her music, but with help from the right people she can start making good business decisions and regain her share of the pop music market.  I think her main problem from day one is that she lacked a good support system and she most certainly lacked the ability to make good decisions for herself. Her husbands, boy-toys, assistants, bodyguards, nearly everyone who has had some contact with her has tried to profit from her in one way or another. Even her family saw her as a meal ticket from the time she was eight years old. I think that with the right people around her, and with a clear, drug-free head she will be able to come back stronger than ever and profit from it. The conservatorship is probably the best thing that has happened to Britney Spears in the past three+ years. Of course, someone else taking control simply stopped it from spinning out of control. Now with some work I'm sure that Britney and Co. can turn it all around--maybe not this year, but I wouldn't write her off just yet. After all, we all like a good come back story don't we?

That is just my opinion, but then again I am a Britney fan and I WANT her to come back.  I want to HELP her (by being her stylist (live in obviously...this girl needs it)). Anyways, check out the article, it is an interesting read:

Heatherette For M.A.C

{image via shinygloss.tv}

After the full Heatherette for M.A.C. collection hit ebay for a ridiculous price nearly two months before the limited collection hit stores, the blogosphere went crazy with speculation. Until now, we really only had the ebay pictures (see below)

{photo via: diamond*tears on ebay}

Who was the rebel that posted the item? Now there seems to be a whole slew of them. Everyone seems to be posting photos of colors and key looks from the collection in beauty forums. I admit it, I was highly intrigued. If you can't wait to view the collection, color palettes, and up close looks of the collection in all its glory, head over to the Spektra Beauty Forums, do not pass go, do not collect $200 and all that, because BlueAngel1023 has the hookup.

Note: I did not receive the collection, but I do plan to purchase a few shades from the tacky glam collection come March 27th when it hits beauty counters.

Oscar Red Carpet Live Blogging

6:40 Heidi Klum wearing a stunning red Galliano gown that will be auctioned off for charity.
6:45 George Clooney will you marry me? Oh wait, Sarah Larson is there wearing Versace, I have no chance.

6:54 Anne Hathaway looking stunning in red Marchesa gown with rosette detail.

6:58 Amy Adams wearing a hunter green mermaid Proenza Schouler dress. I think her hair is a bit blah, The sweetheart neckline suits her, but the dress is a little plain.

7:00 Kelly Preston is wearing an elegant strapless orange/yellow Roberto Cavalli dress.

7:08 Jennifer Garner's hair looks amazing, a gorgeous diamond necklace with a simple mermaid black gown with feathers on the bottom ...designer anyone?...some drama with the interviews Seacrest isn't doing his job.
7:09 Jessica Alba, also wearing Marchesa...this time in burgundy with feather detail. I love the dress, I don't really know how I feel about the braid in her hair. I don't think I like it.
7:20 Cameron Diaz looks amazing in a pink strapless Dior gown with a simple pony tail, her arms are ripped up. I'm so jealous of her...she is perfection.

7:23 I hate Keri Russell's Nina Ricci dress. I love the necklace though...

7:24 We have seen a a lot of safe dresses...red seems to be the color of the night/ Jennifer Hudson has totally redeemed herself from last year's disaster! She is wearing Roberto Cavalli...

7:40 Marie Cotillard pulled out all the stops in John Paul Gaultier. Amazing dress with wonderful scale like detail.
7:41 Is Tilda Swinton wearing no makeup? How is it you can show up to the Oscars wearing no makeup? Also, her hair is a little too orange. Tim and I are actually discussing the no makeup thing...he says she is so beautiful that she could show up and look at least that good. He may have a point, but I am arguing that she is over confident if she thinks that. She strikes me as the type of person who just doesn't care that much...and you know what I can at least respect that.

7:52 Hilary wearing black one shoulder Versace dress with glam up-do...I don't love it, but it isn't a miss.

7:52 Katherine Heigil with Marilyn Monroe-esque hair, gorgeous red lips, and a stunning red one-shoulder Escada dress:

7:59 Cate Blanchett wearing purple. Yay for a new color. A simple Dries Van Noten dress for Cate, love the neckline...definitely not a favorite but she is pregnant so she gets a pass

8pm Renee Zellweger, don't love the hair...stunning silver Carolina Herrera dress.

8:01 changing channels...seeing a few duplicate interviews.

8:13 We know Rachel Zoe dresses Jennifer Garner ...but still no word on the designer. (UPDATE...it is Oscar de Le Renta)
8:14 Helen Mirren looking stunning in red George Chakra. I seriously hope I look half as good as her at that age.

8:17 Okay so maybe Amy Adams' hair isn't so blah after all. She is always a bit hit or miss for me...her overall look is just a bit low maintenance.
8:24 Ellen Page looks a bit plain Jane (wearing vintage ), but I still love her.

Read Our Random Thoughts and Commentary on The Awards Show after the jump:

9:12 Art direction winner..."wow she doesn't know art...look at her UGH she looks like she should be dating Bret Michaels"-Tim

WTF is this binocular/telescope montage? The Bad dreams montage was kind of funny, but for the record I hate montages that make fun of montages

9:20ish I had to laugh when the August Rush song "Raise It Up" was performed, Tim says, "look at that little girl sing it...(jumps up) look at her!)... she can't be more than 11...oh look there her mom is coming in to steal her stage."

9:31 Are they serious with a Bee montage?
9:33 During the clips of Peter & The Wolf Clip for best animated short...Tim says "oooo he caught him" After Peter & The Wolf wins he comments on the woman accepting, "oh she is kind of cute for a dorky animator"
9:39Tim says, "If they give this (Best Supporting Actress) to Ruby Dee I'm gonna punch someone in the face...and since you're the only one here you better be prepared to duck". Tim goes off on a tangent of how he didn't think Tilda Swinton wasn't that believable in Michael Clayton, and as I argue with him she wins. Then I'm pissed and start ranting about how I'm so pissed that she didn't wear makeup to the Oscars. As she accepts, Tim says, "Wow her dress is really weird..." On the bright side, she had some funny jabs about George Clooney.

9:53 During the "That Is How You Know" song performance Tim said, "This is the one I said was going to win, ...Ohhh this has to be a sign (when he saw Kristin Chenoweth
was performing )...you know what is sad I think she was hotter with the dorky glasses on the West Wing...she is so fucking hot, I am just going to pretend she is singing the morning after...look at this guy, you go to the oscars and you wear purple pants? asshole. "

9:58 "You know what pisses me off? I feel like I could write Juno." - Tim

10:01 Jon Stewart's running baby commentary has been pretty fun. "And the baby goes too..."

10:05 Seth Rogan Jonah Hill's Halle Berry/Judi Dench commentary was quite funny.

10:06 Tim says while checking our ballots after the sound categories: "Just so you know, we don't know shit about sound..."

10:10 Maria wins! I cry...Tim proceeds to make fun of me.

10:18 So cool they are playing the Wii!!! I would rather be playing the Wii... Hmm...should we set the Tivo and play the Wii? What about live blogging...if we stop know it won't be live...we better keep going...

10:30 Nicole Kidman does look vaguely pregnant. I wish she would go back to red hair...I am all for pale girls, but her hair color really does makes her look transparent. Her simple black Balenciaga dress isn't anything to wow about, but the necklace is fabulous.

10:35 During the most boring speech ever Tim says, "He doesn't look a day over 85"(laughter)..."Instead of giving him an honary Oscar, they should give him a blue pill and give him his first good time in 35 years!"

10:45 Penelope Cruz is gorgeous & wearing Chanel...

10:48 In his best presentation voice Tim says, "Update!! The last category Melanie won everyone (DRUMROLL PLEASE) was Best Supporting Actor ...Javier Bardem"

That's right, I'm going 4/15 so far, Tim is 11/15...My boyfriend might just be gay after all

10:59 Cameron Diaz is sooo cute!!!!

11:09 Okay, I give in, Amy Adams is completely adorable. I'm officially on the bandwagon. But for the record I still think she looks like a less cute version of Isla Fisher.

11:10 Atonement wins! I actually got a category correct (but Tim did too and is currently 12/18...compared to my 5/18 Tim says "That is how you roll...and for the record, you roll poorly"

11:25 Diablo Cody Wins! I'm so happy! This is the first one I got right that Tim didn't!

11:33...I hope Johnny Depp Wins

11:34 No surprise here Daniel Day Lewis wins...thankfully I guessed correctly on my ballot...otherwise Tim would be killing me...oh wait, he is killing me...nevermind

11:43 I win for Best Directing...well not me but the directors of No Country For Old Men won, thereby I win too...They have made me laugh a couple of times (maybe even more than Jon Stewart) during their acceptance speech so props to them

11:46 No Country For Old Men wins best picture! I really loved this movie (and book), so I can't say I'm upset about the win...it is well deserved I think. :)

11:48 With that I'm signing off for the night. I hope you can make sense of Tim & my banter. More Tim's because he is funnier than I am...anyways, I will follow up tomorrow on some of the designers I missed out on. Tim passed with 60% correct on his ballot...I failed miserably, and Sophie passed (out) on the couch. Good night!

Secrets of Charm

Inspired by their grandmother's impeccable style and the classic 1954 book "Secrets of Charm", sisters Estee and Sharon Elkayam started their clothing line, "Secrets of Charm" in 2004.

Their spring 2008 collection is full of loose fitting silk crepe dresses in hues of royal blue, yellow, black, and vintage prints.  The looks are feminine & sweet, but have a slight menswear influence that prevent them from getting too cutesy. The Paisley Stella & Naomi Dresses have my name written all over them...

Tristan Prettyman

If you haven't heard already, Tristan Prettyman's sophmore album "Hello...X" has been pushed back, and will be released April 15th here in the states.  The album has already been released in Japan, so if you are a Japan resident you can download the album here on itunes. Since I am not a resident of Japan, I just pulled a Michael Scott (Steve Carell's character from the Office) and replayed every 30 second clip about a dozen times. I am also convinced the Japan itunes store is cooler than ours here in the U.S. for instance check out this cool graphic snagged from the Japan itunes store:

I just love the Hokusai inspired wave! So, unless I decide to to hop on a plane to Japan in the next few weeks, I'm just going to have to get my Tristan Prettyman fix from various internet clips.  Tristan did just put up an acoustic version of "Hello" on her myspace page, and there are two videos on YouTube (see below) of her performing "Handshake" and "Echo" live at Fuji Rock. According to Tristan's blog we can expect a music video for her first single "Madly" soon too, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, enjoy these clips:

Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp, the UK Electronica band, fronted by Alison Goldfrapp, is releasing a new album "Seventh Tree" on February 25, 2007. I am loving the first single A&E and the new folksy sound. I also really love the photography on the album cover. That led me to browse through the photos on Goldfrapp's myspace page and I fell in love with some of the photos. They are simply stunning!

Ombre & Dip-Dye Trend For Spring

The Ombre/Dip Dye Trend has taken over spring. Tights at Christian Lacroix have inspired several d.i.y. projects that have had varying degrees of success (check out the successes at Style Bubble & Fashionista). Cocktail dresses, bags, shoes, jackets, tanks, and cardigans at all price points have all embraced the trend. Here are a few pieces that have me thinking I'll be all over this trend this season:

Gap Limited Edition European Collection

The Gap has gone for a second limited edition European collection to follow their classic white shirt capsule collection they did last year. This year, the collection is once again void of color, but the sugar cookie white empire dress is really all I need to fall in love. I didn't love last years collection because the white dresses weren't lined (totally different fabric though), so I'm curious if I'll run into the same problem with the dresses this year, but I'm willing to give it a go for the price tag. (Just in case it doesn't work out, they also have darker hues too!)

Marc by Marc Jacobs Goodies

This weekend I swung by the Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique to shop the mega sale. Accessories & Cashmere were 70% off, there were umbrellas, totes, wallets, necklaces, wellies, a few shoes, bracelets, you name it for ultra cheap (but final sale). Given that I had just scored some deals on some Marc by Marc shoes at the Barney's sale and I'm still in love with my Botkier bag, I wasn't really in the market for the shoe/bags combos. This Blondie tote was $5 ...How could I say no? Debbie Harry rocks! I picked up the Posh spice tee (pictured here), the Marc Jacobs/Louis Vuitton french documentary DVD (available @ Amazon.com for $22.50), an umbrella, and a cute wristlet.

The best thing? I spent next to nothing! :)

Monochrome Wardrobes

Do you love one color (other than black) so much that you are tempted to create a monochrome wardrobe? Joanna Goddard (you may know her from her blog A Cup Of Jo) just wrote a fantastic article in New York Magazine profiling five New Yorkers who choose to wear one color exclusively. Three of which are pictured below:

Karim Rashid, an industrial designer, wears only pink and white; Rebecca Turbow, a fashion designer, wears only grey; and Valeria “ValBlu” McCulloch, a shoe designer, wears only Yves Klein blue.

Read the article here, it is fascinating.

If I were choose one color...I think I would be tempted to choose pink, BUT I look better in blue. In the end I don't think I could choose between the colors...I love them all to much. What color would you choose?

Lindsay Lohan As Marilyn Monroe

Bert Stern was the last photographer to shoot Marilyn Monroe in a shoot that became known as "The Last Sitting" that occurred in 1962, six weeks before her untimely death.

Here are some of the original photos of Marilyn posing in "The Last Sitting":
:
New York Magazine, Bert Stern, and Lindsay Lohan have recreated that famed shoot, and while nothing will compare to the original and Lindsay Lohan would not be my first choice to pose as Marilyn, it is quite good. In the accompanying interview Lindsay speaks ironically about the costs of fame, but is a bit defiant when posed the question why some pay the price and others don't. Lohan is adamant that she won't share Marilyn's fate, but any other answer would be disturbing from someone so young.

Scarlett Johannsson and Natalie Portman Promote The Other Boleyn Girl

I love Scarlett Johannson & Natalie Portman, but when I saw this W Magazine cover...

I couldn't help but wonder what the folks at W magazine have against my girl Scarlett? What happened!?  The dark lipstick is not doing it for her. It makes her look evil. In fact, I hate the dark lipstick trend that is going on...especially on pale girls (like Scarlett & Me), it just washes you out... Natalie on the other hand looks stunning wearing a nude lip!

The actresses are promoting their new movie "The Other Boleyn Girl".  They both looked stunning when promoting the movie on the Today show last week.  The movie looks interesting, and Natalie & Scarlett are always great in interviews, it is always refreshing to see that there ar young, gorgeous, Hollywood starlets that have brain activity...

On My Radar: Eventide

FIT alums Sarah Spratt & Christian Stroble have taken their Eventidelabel to a whole new level with their Spring/Summer 2008 collection.  They took inspiration from photography and art of all kinds--citing Russian propaganda art and Japanese artist Toshiko Okanoue as having an influence on the collection.  I love the fine details that are showcased in the collection: scallopped necklines,  pineapple pleats,  cut-outs, & drop-waists.  Eventide's Spring collection has an overall downtown chic vibe that appeals to me and has me counting the days down until the sunny days of spring arrive here in NYC.

Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue

This Vanity Fair Hollywood issue cover may be my favorite EVER. It really has nothing to do with who is pictured. Annie Leibovitz photographed Emily Blunt, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Ellen Page, Amy Adams, America Ferrera, Ginnifer Goodwin, Elizabeth Banks, Alice Braga, and Zoe Saldana wearing ball gowns and vintage inspired swimsuits designed exclusively by John Galliano for Dior. Everything from the styling, colors, makeup, pink-peach nail polish, and 1950s inspiration draws me in.

Every girl needs interesting basics to incorporate into her wardrobe. My search for fun, stylish, comfortable, and high-quality basics led me to Sophomore NYC's Spring 2008 collection. Navigating Corporate Dress Codes With Style

Often it is difficult to find stylish & versatile pieces that allow you to look perfectly polished at work and yet still stylish in the other areas of your life. We all have lives outside of work after all (this is worth repeating)! For those of you who work in more creative or laid-back atmosphere it might not be so difficult, but any of us who work in a more corporate environment every morning there are serious decisions to be made. Not only is Office Space a little too close to home (seriously, who stole my stapler?!),but it is also close to impossible to navigate the murkiness of the Human Resources "business casual" dress code. Hemlines, necklines, sleeves, materials, fit, and even colors matter and it is so easy to get caught up in the drab cardigan and khaki uniform movement. {Ladies don't become another statistic!} Instead I try to add playful prints, dresses, and great bags and shoes into the mix. Today I am really digging this dress and trench from BCBG:

BCBG Alexandra Cotton Coat $278; BCBG Matte Jersey Dress $170

I love the interesting shape of the trench, and the print of the dress is pretty enough for everyday without being too loud for a corporate environment. If the neckline is too revealing for your office environment, you can always do a bit of creative layering with a camisole to cover some skin. Generally, I am very PRO-"break the dress code" so long as it done tastefully and stylishly. (Please do not wear your Nikes or Rubber flip flops with your work attire!) Try to find small ways to break the rules, if you look great doing it, no one will say a word. Of course if you have an important meeting, wear a well tailored suit and serious shoes, but that should go without saying.

P.S. While you're browsing at BCBG, check out these cute bags!
