it ALWAYS snows on my birthday! we haven't seen a drop of snow in NYC this winter, and as I look out my office window on 52nd street I see it...tiny white snowflakes!!! I swear if I went to some tropical location for my birthday it would probably snow!!! I have never been a fan of cold weather, but as I recalled a few months ago, I was always a big fan of sledding! I remember having a sledding party on my birthday one year, and my aunt, who shares my birthday, came riding by on a snowmobile & picked each of us girls up for a ride on the back!!! that was probably better than a pool party!!(okay, maybe not, but those of us with january birthdays needed something to the quiet the pangs of jealously felt when our summer birthday friends had elaborate outdoor parties!) I don't think this snow will be suitable for sledding in nyc (in fact i think it stopped minutes after i typed the word "snow"), but someday, mark my words, i will have a sledding party on my birthday again!!!



this is me several years ago during one of my many sledding adventures with my little brother, my grandfather, & crew. this particular day we drove our crew & our equipment (pictured above) to a gigantic hill located on a back road. clearly, i had not prepared for our sledding adventure because it looks as though i am wearing an adult's hat & gloves, and possibly other ill-fitting garments. i recall always resisting wearing snow pants, ugly snowboots that my step-mother insisted on buying me, and oftentime hats. this outfit is the product of my resistance. we were just dicussing this picture at christmas (when it was given to me) and we agreed that almost everything that i am wearing is not my own. it is quite possible that i refused to wear my own warm weather gear, but in fear of missing out on a fantastic sledding adventure i borrowed my pint-size grandmother's snow gear. the gloves & hat are just HUGE!!!


anyway, i hope you have a fabulous january 10th!! i know i intend too!!!
