Domino May 2006

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Another fantastic issue of Domino Magazine

I second the message on the cover--Bring On The Heat!!! I can't wait for outdoor BBQs & trips to the Beach out East

Outfitting the Room

What better outfit to use as an inspiration for the room? I adore the Burberry Prorsum trench & dress, the Colette Malouf suede headband ( $42 @ Henri Bendel 800.423.6335) & the Erickson Beamon carved lucite bracelet ( $368 @ Erikson Beamon 212.643.4810 )

I think this room gives a clean, modern, cheery, and summery feel. It isn’t a knock your socks off yellow, and it isn’t too orangish with the neutral accents it looks muted (the headboard makes the entire room!!! I need it!!

Floral Fun:

Ceramic “analina” knobs to dress up an old side table cabinet @ anthropologie 800.309.2500
New york botantical garden postcards $17.50 for a box of 50 available @ kates paperie 300.809. 9880

Lace Imprints:

I adore everything about this emerging trend!!! I adore the glasses here and the contrast of the black lace etching

Photo Displays:

Dvf photo display

The always fabulus diane von Furstenberg has the most glamourous photos but I adore the way she displays them even more. Her collage of photos displayed on a fabric covered board is incredibly inspiring. Even the chaotic collection looks pulled together. Something to think about especially since no one even looks at the albums you worked hours on organizing!

Most Inspired:

I find this entryway display to be incredibly inspiring. I adore every piece & the placement of each!

Giftables & Photo Clusters:
Glass teapots @ teaguys.com and the glass tea cup @ teatreasures.com are simple, clean, modern great for gifting
I adore the frames in the photo cluster the button frame and the carved bone 3 sunflower frame are things I could totally see myself using. The fabric covered lattice frame I love because for me it would be totally unexpected. I love the color and the pattern.
Orchid by Mail—I adore orchids and I think they make perfect gifts, I have put it on my list of gift ideas…

Apple Green & Aqua:

Apple green & aqua the color scheme is a bit of a stretch for me. I love the bookcase but I love the red accents even more. I want to get my hands on the Lowell duvet and pillowcas from matouk.com and the etro wool throw @ thisisauto.com I am also on a mission to get this hand block printed journal in red and pink from perla anne cursive at abce carpet and home 646.602.3806

I heart Avocados:

Avocado slicer—I love funky kitchen tools. I think this is cool, and I want it despite the fact that I happen to be an expert in the avocado slicing department thanks to my college days working in a wine shop & eatery.

I love the fabrics that they use in domino always. Everyone in my family can sew expertly, but I would need serious supervison (and maybe someone like mom to yell at me about how I should have just let her do it) to be able to sew properly. I guess I’ll have to take a sewing class and have my work ridiculed until I get it right. Anyway the fabric I might just have to send my mom to make me some damn pillows J page 60 accent pillows travers and company “lilac” about $90/yard Pacific Design Services 310 360 6498

Other Noteworthy tidbits:
Other Accent Pillow Fabric they used: page 62 Del lago acrylic print in sunbaked coral $86/per yard brunschwig and fills (800)538-1880

&

China Seas from Quadrille “arbe de Matisse” $190/yard (20 yard minimum) designpro@ddbuilding.com

searching for inspiration...

i have just started to keep a folder full of things i see that inspire me. my goal is to keep it organized. when i was living at home i would have these boxes and folders full of scraps, cards, magazine tear outs, photos, etc. that gave me inspiration and i would sift through it every time i was starting a new project. i stopped doing that largely due to clutter, but since starting this blog i have found so many interesting sites, artists, photographers, and just creative people in general that i have decided to keep a folder full of things that inspire me, but also catalog it electronically. Here are a few of the things I have already stored in my "Inspire Me" folder/catalog:

by minkoff:
fifth week;week 14 from the pages of minkoff's 2006 Moleskine Pocket Diary (doesn't make you want to start keeping your own collage diary!!??)

by sujean rim:

ballet water color (you may recognize sujean rim's work from daily candy)
