Illustration Friday: Invention

If you asked me 14 + years ago what the best invention was. I would have told you it was the sled. My favorite thing to do in the winter was go out for some serious sledding. To this day I insist that the best sled is a good old fashioned steerable runner sled. The flexible flyer was invented by the genius Samuel Leeds Allen in the 1880s (he was issued a U.S. Patent in August 13, 1889). Thanks to him & my grandfather, the sledding maven, I have some wonderful winter wonderland memories. Above is a lino cut block print on red textured card stock. These are my homemade christmas cards! I can't wait to send them out!!! I have some available on etsy too! Oh and I still maintain that my invention entry for my 7th grade "invention convention" is the best damn invention ever. It was a plastic pencil cap in fun swirly colors. I melted and shaped the plastic myself for all of my drawing pencils because I always hated how they always made lead marks in my bag & pencil case! (I have a mild case of OCD). I made it to the state convention but one of the judges made the comment that I should just use mechanical pencils!!! I was so furious about that!! Obviously I still am! Yep, sorry microwave, I love ya but there is still a need for pencil caps, so obviously I am still fond of my 7th grade invention! :)

I'm there with you on that one...I hate pulling out a pecil with graphite smoodged all over it because of the tips flobbing around. Like the print.
