iPod nano 4GB - White
nike+ arm band (will fit the nano & the sensor comfortably) $29; nike+ running tank $60
running has always been my training method of choice. my shoes of choice have been my pink nike shox. it was only a few months ago when i decided i might have to give them up...replace them...or at the very least begin to break in a new pair. thankfully, i have waited this long so i can now buy the new nike plus ready shoes. i think the nike+ is sheer genius...the concept is fantastic, but the marketing plan...well it is a slam bam thank you maam if i've ever seen one, but as usual i'm all about it, because, well, it just makes sense!
how it works:
the nike+ sensor slips into a built in pocket under the sockliner of your nike+ ready shoes. the sensor is highly durable, and is built to upstand the elements a serious runner is bound to encounter. while you are listening to your fave work out tunes the ipod nano tracks your progress, providing feedback on distance, time, pace and calories burned directly through the headphones. after your run, a performance summary appears on the nano screen and can be heard through the headphones. oh how i would have loved such a tool in high school and college when i ran cross country and track. i have been religious about keeping a running journal (i use the http://www.running log by april powers @ chronicle books ) . it has been a great motivator for me to see my progress on paper. it keeps me honest. i know when i skipped a day at the gym. tracking my running electronically truly improves the quality and accuracy of my information! i am hoping that this new tool will not only give me more information, but that it will further motivate me to improve my fitnesss level.
also, an electronic running journal may help me streamline my "system". i have become the type of person to keep a journal for everything. i have a sketch book, a journal journal, a food journal, a running journal, and a day planner that has notes scattered throughout. the thing is, all of this keeps me organized, grounded, and motivated, but i am always seeking new ways to reduce my paper trail. uploading my running data is the perfect way to do this!
