Illustration Friday: Fat

nicole richie, the olsen twins, lindsay lohan, and numerous other hollywood celebs make everyone look & feel fat. apparently, even barbie began to have body image issues. so much so, she opted to get some work done!

barbie has had many makeovers over the years, but they have all been done privately (hush, hush). now barbie comes beautifully packaged while on the mend (gasp) from her latest cosmetic surgery reconstructive effort (just a little nip, tuck, and enhancement here and there) so her best pals can have a share in the cosmetic surgery fun ( the cosmetic surgery fun barbie is complete with botox accessories).

What a great illo, I love it! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we will her like in the stores... :/

Excellent idea!! How screwed up is our society? It would be hard to be a teenage (or preteen) girl these days. I thought it was bad 20 years ago, but even then Madonna was a little chunky!

Great commentary! You know - it has to be such a drag to be one of those skinny gals. They can't possibly eat normal meals, and they must always feel such pressure to stay so thin. Although contrary to what Amy posted, I see so many teens who are rather chubby and out of shape flaunting their midsections (and often other parts) without a care in the world. I think Madonna looks great - she's a fine example of healthy eating and exercise. Anyway...enough of that...your illo is wonderful. I'm sure you could market this...using a different name, of course:>

thanks all for the comments!!...jessica! you make me laugh, nooo i did not base this off of a new barbie model. i did this strictly to amuse and humor myself. however, i would not put it past the folks at mattel to steal my idea. well, "steal" probably isn't the best word because to be completely honest i am a little surprised they haven't had a "EXTREME MAKEOVER" Barbie yet...like I said it is only a matter of time for my best gal Barbie. Maybe a Plastic Surgeon Barbie is the way to go though...a little less shocking then having her all bandanged up. Oh and P.S. I love Barbie and I always have...but I also love a good laugh--she just happened to be my "celeb" of choice to use as my muse. I agree with all of you there are so many weight and body image issues of every extreme in this country. anorexia, compulsive eatting, bulemia, drug use, and of course the people who are enticed by plastic surgery fixes among others...i could go on and on. We need to teach ourselves and our kids that a healthy diet, and exercise is they way to a healty lifestyle. Aspiring to look like someone else whether it is a celeb, your bestfriend, or your younger sister isn't going to make us happier. I think everyone in this country can relate to that, and can work in those areas. It is a personal struggle that we all go through--women especially. I know I struggle with this everyday.
