some background: every year my grandfather (hereafter referred to as Keith) takes great pride in his snowmen. i recall him making a mini snowman and somehow having it last all through the snow melt...i'm pretty sure we have a picture of him sitting next to his mini snowman (he built it on something that would allow it to be transported (possibly into a freezer))and in the background there is not a drop of ice or snow, in fact i think i recall seeing green grass, but i couldn't say for sure since i don't have the picture in front of me. anyway, he loves the snow. growing up, all it took was a few snowflakes and a coveted snow-day and he would be calling us kiddies out of bed employing us to assist him with his elaborate snow creations. once we were finished making our snowmen, women, and angels we would head over to carefully selected sledding locations that had been already been surveyed and were now accompanied by intricate maps of the fastest paths down each of the hills. I don't remember any statistics (record times, most falls, record distance etc.) accompanying these maps, but I wouldn't put it past him. so, now you understand why i found the email below to be so terribly disturbing!
the demise of mr. snowman, a disturbing email from my grandmother:
"Keith, Pam, Alice and Dan created a great snowman last weekend, complete with a carrot nose, top hat and bright red bow sash.
Mr. Snowman stood happily in our yard until Wednesday morning. His charcoal eyes had been replaced with large red bottle caps due to minor snow melt, photos were made and distributed, and children smiled at him when they passed by.
An individual driving a pre-1989 black Ford pickup into the yard on Wednesday morning, got out and tried to push Mr. Snowman over, only succeeding in knocking off his head. This individual then drove his truck around the block, entered the alley from the north and aimed his vehicle at the snowman and rammed the snow statue, effectively rendering him unrecognizable and in snow chunks.
This individual proceeded to drive his Ford truck over the sad remnants left behind, over the sidewalk, into the yard and through the ditch to escape the wrath so imminently deserved by vicious vandals.
This act was not committed by mischievous children, but by an individual who obviously possessed a driver's license and a four wheel drive truck. One could only hope that more sense and restraint is exercised on the highway."

My email response to my grandparents:
Dear Grandma & Grandpa-
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Mr. Snowman was a "jolly happy soul" that will always be in our hearts and our minds. I can only hope that the culprits of such a vicious and senseless crime will be brought to justice! Maybe next snow "Frosty the Cop" and his partner from the "snow k-9 force" will deter any future snow hate crimes. My deepest condolences go out to you during this difficult time.
Yours Truly,
Melanie
If you have any information regarding these occurrences (it occured at 10 AM in the morning, seriously, who does that!!!) or would like to send your condolences please email me: at platinumblondelife5 {at} mac {dot} com!

OMG! That is funny, yet disturbing that someone of age to drive actually took the time to hit the snowman!
